Carbon Literacy for the Member & Electronic Recycling Sector

Build the knowledge and confidence to make better business decisions.

Climate change, carbon reduction and sustainability expectations are increasingly shaping business decisions, customer requirements and supply chains.
This Carbon Literacy Project-accredited course has been designed specifically for Ecogenesys Compliance Scheme members and organisations operating within the electronic recycling and producer responsibility sectors.
Combining the accredited Carbon Literacy curriculum with more than 20 years of producer responsibility expertise, the course gives learners a practical understanding of climate change, carbon emissions and the actions individuals and organisations can take to reduce their impact.
Rather than creating climate experts, the course creates a shared understanding and common language across teams, helping employees recognise where their day-to-day decisions influence carbon and where opportunities exist to improve efficiency, resilience and sustainability performance.
About the course

Carbon Literacy is a foundation-level qualification designed to give people the knowledge and confidence to understand climate change and respond to it in a practical way.

This interactive, accredited course explores the science behind climate change, how climate change affects businesses, regulation and supply chains, where carbon emissions come from and how they are measured, and the practical actions organisations can take to reduce emissions.

What makes this course different is its sector-specific focus.

Real-world examples and case studies are drawn from producer responsibility, environmental compliance and the electronic recycling sector, helping learners connect the course content directly to the challenges, opportunities and decisions they encounter in their own organisations.

The training combines structured learning with discussion, practical activities and case studies, giving participants the opportunity to explore what Carbon Literacy means in the context of their own role and organisation.

The course is delivered across four themed modules:

Module One: Climate Science & Impacts
Module Two: Business, Policy & Risk
Module Three: Carbon Footprints & Measurement
Module Four: Solutions & Action

Why complete this course?

Carbon Literacy isn’t about turning every employee into a climate specialist.

It provides people across an organisation with a consistent foundation of knowledge, enabling teams to make better-informed decisions and understand how their own actions contribute to wider organisational objectives.

For Ecogenesys members and organisations within the electronic recycling sector, this understanding is increasingly important as customers, supply chains and stakeholders expect businesses to demonstrate credible environmental action.

Building a Carbon Literate workforce can help your organisation:

  • Create a shared understanding of climate change across teams
  • Improve confidence when responding to sustainability requirements
  • Identify practical carbon-reduction opportunities
  • Support more consistent decision-making
  • Strengthen employee engagement with sustainability
  • Demonstrate progress to customers and stakeholders
  • Support tender and supply-chain requirements
  • Build greater long-term organisational resilience

Unlike generic Carbon Literacy programmes, the Ecogenesys course brings the learning to life through examples relevant to producer responsibility, compliance and the environmental sector.
